A Look At The Skull Hooker
Robert Shaw is the president of Skull Hooker.
What is a Skull Hooker?
The World’s fully adjustable and professionally finished European Skull Mounting Bracket.
Where did the idea come from?I was never a fan of the bulky looking and fixed position wood plaques and I certainly never liked hanging a Euro flat on the wall in what I consider a “fighting position.” I began tying back elk and deer racks with thin wires attached to the wall to help display my trophies in a more upright and natural position. I thought, there must be a better way and after some extensive research, I found there was not.
What’s the benefit of using a Skull Hooker versus…oh, I don’t know…a nail? There are three main benefits to a Skull Hooker Mounting Bracket. First, Skull Hooker Brackets securely attach to the skull with no drilling or damage to the skull. Skull collectors and hunters alike appreciate this and changing heads is as easy as swapping one head for another. Second, unlike a wood plaque, Skull Hooker brackets suspend the head and are sleek (showcase the trophy, not the plaque). They are powder coated in two color options. Our intent here was that hopefully the women in our lives would appreciate the decorative element to them and allow a few more heads into the house. Finally, unlike any nail, all Skull Hooker Brackets are fully adjustable and allow the hunter to adjust the angle of the skull to their eye. This is important as our pronghorn requires a much different angle than say an Impala. The same is true for larger game species like an Elk vs. displaying say a Cape buffalo head. Skull Hooker Brackets will allow for true angle customization for most every size and type of game species worldwide.
What sizes do they come in?
For small to mid-sized game species such as deer, antelope, black bear, alligator, hogs, impala etc., we offer the “Little Hooker.” For larger game species (elk sized skull and larger) such as bison, moose, Cape buffalo, elk, stag, caribou etc., we offer the “Big Hooker.”
Last question: What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever heard of anyone hanging on a Skull Hooker?
Every day I am blown away with the different types of species that guys/gals are hanging on these brackets. Some that come to mind would be muskox, giraffe, African monkeys, alligator, Australian water buffalo (probably the largest species thus far) and many other random species worldwide. We enjoy getting pictures and we have posted some of these on www.skullhooker.com. Just yesterday, I had a call regarding a snapping turtle skull. In this case, since we have not tested it, I simply let him know that if for any reason it does not work, we have a 100% return policy for all our products. We are fortunate in that we rarely have returns. I have to admit, I am interested to see if the Skull Hooker works on the turtle
